PROJECT

Quai Saint Bernard, Paris

Quai St. Bernard is a very complex site. Not only is it surrounded by a large variety of attractions, it also has layers of history of it own. At one time a location for a wine port, the spot became the perfect scene for spontaneous dances. Unfortunately, along with poor landscape management, the site has been forgotten by the people of Paris.

Arrangement of platforms and stages of drastically different levels, sizes, and material were designed for the site to revive the rich history of dance for the site.

Not only does each stage have its own, distinct characteristics but the also the proximity to other arenas is also greatly varied throughout the site.

FLOOD PLAIN
Vulnerable to periods of high water, the site has been designed to adapt to flooding.  Thus giving Quai Saint Bernard the ability to transform itself according to the Seine's water level.

Transcribed to look like a musical progression, as the user moves through the experience becomes varied and they may even be tempted to find the perfect spot for themselves and take part in the festivities.

There are also viewing areas placed throughout for spectators to congregate and experience what is occurring in their own way.

One spectator arena is a Café with elevated outdoor seating placed in the center of the site. A guignette has been placed in area with the densest stages to serve as a place for people to meet and grab a drink.
