PROJECT
CUBIQUES BIZZARE::: French Cubism
Location: Place de la Concorde; Paris
The painting “Femme à la guitare” (Woman with guitar) by Cubist artist
Georges Braque supplied the guiding principles for this redesign.
Characteristics of Cubism, such as a fragmented perspective or fragmented views,
were studied and then related to design elements in the landscape. Techniques,
such as manipulation of lighting effects and distorted sense of depth, were
utilized to attain the feel of Early Cubism. Organization of volumes and
lines, balanced weight, and the arrangement of geometry were translated directly
from Braque to the site. The distribution of program elements were arranged
to achieve a sense of collage - a style often found in Cubism.
