Design Models

DESCRIPTION

Images of models which explore the design and development
of space.  With special attention to Mass/Void, inhabitable
space was created by employing elements such as
overhead conditions, vertical planes, and horizontal planes.

PROJECT

Location: Historic St. Augustine, Florida

By exploring the history and culture of St. Augustine,
areas in need of renewal were designed using existing design elements.  Buildings with interior and exterior spaces, passage ways connecting buildings, street view patios, outdoor spaces sunken into the earth and
multi-level structures were integrated into the existing
fabric of the city.

PROJECT

Exploring the relationship between doors, windows, and stairs enables the designer to manipulate the experience of people inhabiting a space.  Planes were folded, cut, bent, extended, and exposed to created inhabitable spaces and reveal views and insights into the surrounding landscape and the building itself.   The placement of specific elements choreographs the participation of the design.

PROJECT

Location:  Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Context is explored as a generator of design ideas.  There is a tall structure reaching for the sky while still digging down into a vast sea of sand.  It has arms subtly extending out in every direction design to exist harmoniously with the harsh elements of the desert.

PROJECT

An analysis of how organization of objects can create diverse areas for public gathering or private corners.  Designed for lounging in a community open space.

PROJECT

Design of a sculpture park, where land forms are molded to mimic the sculptures they are displaying.  A path flows through the structure of the landscape creating an interesting experience as water features and artwork are revealed past mounds and over hills.
